Thanks so much to the Porters and everyone who played on April 27. It was a perfect setting with lots of exciting playing! Please enjoy the photos below – the Porter’s music room and gracious hospitality could’t have been better. Nearly $100.00 was raised in a free will offering to benefit NPH USA, a charity that provides full services – a home environment, family-like support, education, job training – to children who have been orphaned due to conflicts in their native countries.
First Improvaganza a Huge Success! Next one on April 27!
On Friday, April 6, ten students played in our first Improvaganza, improvising in solos or duets. We’ve been playing the “idea” of what we wanted to play, but not the specifics, so the music was truly fresh “on the spot.” It was amazing. Everyone was open, free and extremely spontaneous. Participating were Sean Porter, Allie Ning, Jacqui O’Leary, Justin O’Leary, Skye Mitterando, David Won, Jr., Diana Won, Jack Rowland, Sam Rowland and Fiona Roy.
We’d all like to thank Jen Johnson and Stephen O’Leary for hosting in their beautiful home. We were thrilled to play on their newly-refurbished Mason and Hamlin, Jen’s childhood piano! Here are some photos:

Thank you for all the hard work on the part of the students below for their participation in the South Shore Music Teachers Association Ensemble Recital on Sunday, March 25 at House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Hingham. Improvaganzas – A Studio First
Improvisation has been, for time immemorial, at the heart of just about all composition. When we improvise, our spirits are set free and our listening comes alive. Through improvising, we become better interpreters and more expressive pianists.
Ever since the fall, we’ve been spontaneously creating music in the studio and at home. We’re excited to share our creations on two occasions called “Improvaganzas” These two evenings promise to be powerful and unique.
The dates are Friday, April 6 and Friday, April 27, both from 6-7 p.m. Admission is free, but attendees may give a free-will offering to benefit a charity of the host family’s choice, supporting the “Music for Good” studio project. Classical Recital on Sunday, February 4!
Thank you to all who performed in and attended the South Shore Music Teachers’ Association Classical Recital, held on Sunday, February 4. Performing were Alexandra Ning, Rebecca Murray, Diana Won, David Won, Jr., Jackson Rowland (back left) and Justin O’Leary (back right.) It was a stupendous recital and everyone played beautifully! Unfortunately, Micah Mulder was ill and couldn’t perform. We missed you, Micah! Thank you, Ingrid Kotch, for always taking such great student photos!
